Hi friends! Just stopping in to do a quick pregnancy update. I’m pretty sure this will be my last one, unless I happen to go well past 40 weeks…then perhaps I’ll consider doing another. But I’m being optimistic in thinking my little guy will arrive slightly early or just on time (June 6th is the due date).
So, here’s a quick 38 week update…
How far along? 38 weeks as of Tuesday, May 23
Sleep: It’s been pretty great, actually! I do have quite vivid and strange dreams, but I’m only waking a couple times a night (once to use the bathroom) and don’t have any trouble falling back asleep. The hardest part is rolling over and moving around in bed…it’s such an effort with this belly!
Symptoms: I’ve complained about this a million times, but my back is still itchy. It hasn’t been terrible but it bothers me from time to time, especially when I lay down to go to sleep. The only other symptoms I have are tiredness (some days worse than others) and lower hip/groin pain from baby dropping. It’s completely manageable though and I can still workout without it bothering me much.
Contractions? I may be having them from time to time, but I haven’t felt a single one. With my previous pregnancy I didn’t feel any contractions until the doctor broke my water. So, I’m really not surprised I haven’t felt any yet.
Stretch marks? Nope! It’s crazy to me that my body can stretch so much without getting any stretch marks. But I do not have any that I am aware of and didn’t get any last pregnancy either.
Belly button in or out? Flat
Wedding Rings on or off? On! Haven’t had ANY swelling.
Baby Movement? Yes! On and off all day and night. I can feel him in my rib cage and way down low. It’s the strangest feeling.
Last Dr. Appointment: I’ve had weekly appointments since my last update. At my 37 week appointment I was dilated 2 cm and 50% effaced. I feel pretty good about this progress since I was 0 cm dilated and 0% effaced at my 40 week appointment during my first pregnancy! I have no idea how much weight I’ve gained, but I know I’m on track. My blood pressure and baby’s heartbeat are great.
Workouts: Since my last update, my workouts have died down a bit. I go to the gym 4 days a week and do light cardio and/or weights. My workouts are really pretty wimpy, but getting some movement in is my main goal. I just want to be healthy; I can work on strength building and weight loss after pregnancy. Plus, my son LOVES our gym and it’s a great way for him to interact with other kids.
Food Cravings/Dislikes: I’m really boring in this department. Seriously, no cravings or food aversions, which I guess is nice. I do love something sweet after meals and have been eating quite a bit of fruit. You can check out my Instagram for what my meals typically look like.
What are you looking forward to? Holding our little boy and having my first son hold him too! (He talks about holding the baby.) Nursing…I don’t know why, but I had a great experience the first time around and I love the bonding/connection it creates. I also look forward to working out the way I used to and wearing more than just a couple outfits. Oh, and having more energy! I know I’ll be tired the first few weeks (months) but it’s just not the same as the exhaustion you feel when you’re pregnant.
