It’s been 5 weeks since my last pregnancy update so I thought I’d fill you all in. Nothing significant has changed; I’m just bigger and hungrier and more ready than ever to meet our little man!
How far along? 25 weeks as of Tuesday, February 21
Sleep: So-so. I wake 2-3 times a night to use the bathroom. Some nights I sleep great and feel well rested, while other nights I toss and turn and cant get comfortable. Also, I frequently wake up on my back – which worried me at first because supposedly sleeping on your back can cut off blood flow to the baby. But my doctor said not to worry about it and that sleeping on my back will become uncomfortable when it’s unsafe. (Note: I slept on my back with my first son ALL the time and he turned out just fine.)
Symptoms: My back is still itchy, but not as bad since it hasn’t been quite as dry out. My energy levels are better than they were a few weeks ago. I had to start supplementing with iron and I think that helped. I nap every once in a while when my son naps, but not nearly as much as I was. My only other symptom is that going on walks is uncomfortable. Sometimes it hurts my lower back and other times puts strain on my lower abdomen. But I’m still able to workout and do cardio like the elliptical.
Stretch marks? Nope! I didn’t get any last pregnancy so am hoping I don’t with this one.
Belly button in or out? Pretty much flat
Wedding Rings on or off? On…never had to remove them during my first pregnancy (even though it was in the midst of summer). I don’t tend to swell/retain a lot of water.
Baby Movement? Yes, but it is still pretty light. I feel him the most during the evening/night when I’m lying in bed.
Last Dr. Appointment: Nothing exciting happened. We got to hear the baby’s heartbeat and the doctor measured my stomach. The glucose test is supposed to happen at my next appointment, but I have opted out of doing this. Instead I am doing a fasting blood test and if my numbers are good then I won’t have to do any more testing (did this same thing last pregnancy).
Workouts: Same as they have been – a mix of cardio and weights 5 days a week, with rest days varying. Cardio is mostly on the elliptical and for weights I do free weights and cable machines. I tend to do lighter weights, higher reps and make sure not to do any exercises on my back.
Food Cravings/Dislikes: I don’t have any intense cravings or food aversions. I like having something sweet after meals, but keep it fairly healthy. I’ve really been enjoying avocados (on rice cakes, with meals, on potatoes…) and baked potatoes with a runny egg on top. Sometimes the smell of meat cooking isn’t all that appealing, but I can eat anything. I also find that days I lift I get SUPER hungry! I tend to eat a lot in the afternoon, between lunch and dinner.
Things you miss? Wearing my old clothes. I miss my smaller frame – especially smaller breasts! I also miss pushing myself in workouts – running/sprinting, lifting heavy. I get light-headed when lifting every now and then (I have pretty low blood pressure) and so I make sure to go easy when I’m having an off day and I always sit between sets.
Thoughts/Feelings Lately: I’ve been thinking a lot about my son’s birth and how I hope things to go. I know that birth plans are great guidelines but often don’t go exactly as planned, but I still have hopes that this birth will be easy and natural. I’m also just SO ready for our new baby to be here! I’m really excited to meet him and to have a newborn again. I’m also excited for breastfeeding (is that weird?), as it was a great experience with my first son and I hope to have that same experience with my second.
