Raw Revolution Organic Protein Bars

I am always on the lookout for a good protein bar because they are a great snack option for when you are on the go, or in a pinch to get in some quick, satiating fuel. There are many bars on the market to choose from, but they often contain a long list of ingredients; many of which are unrecognizable and/or questionable.  The main things I look for in a protein bar are:

  • A short list of ingredients
  • A low sugar content
  • A great flavor

Recently, I had the opportunity to try six (of the seven) flavors of Raw Revolution’s organic Raw Rev Glo bars and they did not disappoint.  Each bar has a short list of ingredients (all of which I recognize), a sugar content from only 2-5 grams per bar, and a great flavor.  The bars contain anywhere from 10-12 grams of protein and 170-190 calories, making them a great snack option.  They are also all non-GMO and gluten free.

Although I like nearly all of the flavors, I do have favorites!  For this product review, I will review each bar individually and give you my thoughts on the flavor, texture, pros and cons.

espressoDark Chocolate Espresso Crunch

Flavor: Tastes like chocolate covered coffee beans

Texture: Soft base with whole espresso beans and chocolate chunks

Pros: Good espresso flavor and smell, peanut-free

Cons: None

Notes: If you like chocolate covered coffee beans you will like this bar.  It is one of my top three favorite flavors.

cookiedoughChocolate Chip Cookie Dough

Flavor: Tastes just like cookie dough, sweet

Texture: Soft, large chocolate chunks

Pros: great texture, lots of chocolate chunks, peanut-free

Cons: None

Notes: This bar is good, but not in my top three favorite flavors

crunchy pbCrunchy Peanut Butter & Sea Salt

Flavor: Tastes like a peanut butter caramel (really good), strong peanut butter smell, not too sweet.

Texture: Soft, peanut pieces

Pros: Low sugar content

Cons: None

Notes: This is my favorite flavor because it is lower in sugar than the other bars, therefore not as sweet but still has a great taste.

chocpbPeanut Butter Dark Chocolate & Sea Salt

Flavor: Rich dark chocolate and peanut butter taste

Texture: Soft, large chocolate chunks

Pros: Great taste and low in sugar, lots of chocolate

Cons: None

Notes: This is another great flavor if you like peanut butter and chocolate.

mixednutcarameMixed Nuts Caramel & Sea Salt

Flavor: Sweet in taste and smell. Vanilla, caramel and nutty flavor with lots of chocolate pieces

Texture: Soft, large chunks of chocolate

Pros: Great flavor and texture

Cons: None

Notes: This is one of my top three favorite flavors.  Although it is pretty sweet, it has a great balance of caramel and nutty flavor.

mintDark Chocolate Cashew & Mint

Flavor: The mint flavor threw me off.  It tastes like mint extract, rather than real mint and left an after-taste.

Texture: Soft with chocolate pieces

Pros: Good texture and a lot of chocolate pieces, peanut-free

Cons: Fake mint flavor

Notes: If you are a big mint lover you will probably like this bar, but it is my least favorite.

In summary, I like all of the Raw Rev Glo Bars except the Dark Chocolate Cashew & Mint.  My three favorite flavors are the Crunchy Peanut Butter & Sea Salt, Dark Chocolate Espresso Crunch and Mixed Nuts Caramel & Sea Salt.  All of these bars meet my protein bar “standards” because they have a good list of ingredients, low sugar content and a great flavor.  None of these bars have that after-taste you often get with protein bars made using sweeteners or highly processed protein powders.

The Raw Rev Glo protein bars taste great alone, but one of my favorite ways to eat them is as a chia seed pudding or smoothie bowl topping.  These bars are soft and easy to cut into bite-sized pieces and add the perfect touch of sweetness to any snack/meal.
