Organic Beef Burgers

If you follow me on Instagram, you saw this burger a couple weeks ago.  OMG!  Best. Burger. Ever.  The burger patty was made with organic ground beef and a vast array of veggies.  In combination with mashed avocado, onion, kale, spinach, pickles, a gluten free bread “bun” and a side of purple sweet potato and carrot fries, this was by far the best meal I’ve had in quite some time.  So, today I’m going to share my recipe for these burgers in hopes that you can enjoy a burger food coma of your own 😉

Organic Beef Burgers

  • 1 package Kirkland Organic Ground Beef
  • 1/4 cup red bell pepper
  • 1/3 cup kale
  • 5-8 cloves garlic
  • 1/3 cup onion
  • 1/4 cup purple cabbage
  • 1 tbsp dried thyme
  • pinch of himilayan pink sea salt

  1. Wash, finely chop and then place all vegetables in a large mixing bowl.  (The vegetable measurements do not need to be exact.)
  2. Carefully knead in the ground beef with the veggies.
  3. Form mixture into balls.
  4. Flatten the burger balls on a frying pan to create your desired patty shape and thickness.
  5. Cook a few minutes on each side until done.
  6. Serve and enjoy!

There are so many great fixings to put between the buns of a burger; avocado, onion, pickles, lettuce, spinach, kale, jalapenos, tomato, mustard, mayo, ketchup, bacon, cheese… There are also many bun alternatives such as: gluten-free bread, lettuce, sliced sweet potato.

For my burger, I used Franz gluten-free 7 grain bread.  It was actually my first time buying bread!  I was quite surprised by the soft texture and nutty taste.  I would definitely purchase it again, should another burger craving strike.  My burger also had mashed avocado, onion, spinach, kale, pickles and mustard.  It was all paired with a side of baked carrots and sweet potato to resemble fries.

I think this meal is the perfect example of taking a food that is normally considered “unhealthy” and making it something just the opposite – healthy, nutritious, and satiating.  It is something you can eat without guilt.  It is possible to have your burger and fries and not come out feeling sluggish.  Making your own version means skipping out on the MSG, gluten, preservatives, additives, food coloring, “natural” flavorings, trans-fats, seed oils and excess salt.
